IRS Updates “Where’s My Refund?”

Read the Article

Now that you filed your taxes, you may be wondering, “Where’s My Refund?”.  I often wonder how we ever made it before e-file, when we mailed our paper tax returns and had no idea if they ever made it to the IRS.

Where's My Refund
Where's My Refund

Now we are able to receive confirmation that our tax returns were accepted and receive tax refunds quicker than we did in the days of paper filing, despite IRS processing delays.  Although the IRS has a refund cycle chart with estimates of when your tax refund may be deposited or mailed, per the IRS those dates are strictly estimates based on normal  processing.

You may have heard that the IRS is experiencing some processing delays. TurboTax has been working hard to get an update from the IRS on e-filed tax returns so we can give you the latest information regarding IRS delays.

We just received the following update from the IRS and we wanted to make sure you received the most up to date information.

Some taxpayers who filed electronically and received an acknowledgment from the IRS are concerned when they visit “Where’s My Refund” and are told that IRS has no information regarding their tax return.

The IRS informed us on February 10 that this is a temporary situation and it should be resolved in several days.  At that time, you will be able to get an expected refund date when you visit “Where’s My Refund.”

This is an IRS issue that impacts tax returns regardless of who sends them to the IRS. This is not a TurboTax issue.

If you have received an acknowledgment of your tax return from the IRS, then the IRS assures us they have received your tax return and are processing it.

Information on the status of your tax refund will be updated in “Where’s My Refund” once your tax return processes. This is a temporary situation, and the IRS expects to resolve the matter in a few days.

IRS expects the vast majority of tax refunds to continue to be issued
within the historical range of 10 to 21 days.

The IRS also updated its’ Where’s My Refund site with additional information in a FAQ that may help answer your questions.

We want to quickly share any updates we receive from IRS because we know some of you may be waiting for  your tax refund status and estimated direct deposit date.  We will continue to keep you up to date on any more additional information from the IRS.

  1. is anyone else having a problem with illinois taxes? i filed on jan 20th and accepted on jan 23rd. I got my federal within 2 weeks but still waiting for il state. They told me 10 to 15 weeks. is anyone else getting this info?

  2. It’s not the IRS that is having issues it is in fact Turbo Tax. Millions of people are having there taxes with held by them because of some so called security issue. Heaven forbid if you have to call customer support because that is a total waste of your time. I had used Turbo Tax for years but never again. They are nothing but a total scam this year. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

    • Hi Todd,
TurboTax is not holding any money. There were additional security measures put in place for the refund card and refunds not placed on the cards with security issues are not held by TurboTax or the bank. The refunds are sent back to the IRS and the IRS issues a check if the refund is valid.

The IRS processing delays is a nationwide issue, which is in the news and on links in the post. If you look at other sites, you will see the entire industry is having the same issue.

      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • Sorry Lisa it is in fact tt and there bank. I have talked to them and they are giving me the run around everyday for nearly 2 weeks. Its a total scam

      • Turbotax is mosly certainly keeping peoples refund perhaps for the own benefit despite haing done taxes with turbotax three years in row and sending in the necessary information when requested my husbands funds have been held by turbotax for a month now !

      • Hi Rhonda,
Sorry for the delay, TurboTax does not hold any funds.
-1st your husbands tax return has to be accepted and reviewed by the IRS.
-2nd you would receive a date that your refund will be issued. Was that date a month ago?
-Next once they process the refund they issue the funds.
-After that the refund is issued to the bank and they are supposed to put the refund on the refund card.
-If there is a security issue with the card, the bank, not TurboTax will send the funds back to the IRS, where they will in turn issue a check if everything is OK with the refund.
-Also check the IRS “Where’s My Refund” to find out the issue date
Please call 866.543.9160 to find out the status of the information you faxed in.
        Thank you,

      • Lisa, tell the truth, it is not the IRS that is problem is Turbo Tax. My sister and brother filed their taxes with H&R Block online and for some reason I decided to file Turbo Tax. They both received their refund within 8 days after their filing date and I still have not received my refund and it has been 2 1/2 weeks. Oh, did I forget to mention, we all filed the same day on the same computer at our parent’s home. If the issue is with the IRS, I have a good feeling that the issue is IRS with Turbo Tax.

      • Hi Michelle,
If you look at Block’s comments on some of their blogs and even ours their customers as well as other tax software companies are experiencing the same issues. Did you read the IRS explanation of why some people are receiving their refunds earlier than others? It explains that some tax returns require further review. Read Blocks comments as well as some Block users who commented on our blogs.
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • WOW. You folks really try hard to cover it, but when the IRS has said they are having major issues with TT this year and I see several other repat customers saying the same thing. YES you folks are holding money, probably to incrue interest on funds that belong to us!!! When we get too vocal you lie and say our money was sent back to the IRS. I see a class action suit in the works here.

  3. Well I filed on Jan 17 it got acepted on Jan 19 today is the 23 of Feb and still no refund yet ,IRS needs to get with it and hire some new people pissed off tax payer

    • It’s hard to find knowledgeable plpeoe on this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

  4. my DD date was supposed to be Feb 21st, and now WMR says that “your taxes have been recieved and is being processed.” i hear that this means they have released my funds to my back. is that true/

    • Hi Amy,
I would check WMR again, because some people are seeing specific date changes from the IRS after they received one date.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • You made some decent pitnos there. I looked on the internet for the issue and found most individuals will go along with with your website.

  5. Lisa, please help me! ive talked to you before but turns out im an idiot and i missed one number in my account number for direct deposit. what do i do?? im freaking out!

      • Thank you Matt.
@ Chelsey, Matt is correct. You would have to contact the IRS as your tax return information was already transmitted from TurboTax. If they already tried to deposit it, it will come back to them and they will issue you a paper check.
        The phone number is 800.829.1040

  6. Lisa
You are a joke we all know that you are saying what you are told to say by TT

Hey maybe TT should deposit their customers tax refunds like promised and you can wait to be repaid

    • Hi Eleanor,
I am giving you the latest information we have from the IRS which has impacted the entire industry and is public knowledge. The IRS delays are all in the news and the IRS FAQ and update are on this post.

      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • Great post. I just stumbled upon your blog and ntawed to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

      • Hi Alysuka,
We are glad you enjoy the post. Check back for more interesting topics soon!
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

  7. Jason if you would use some ediquette and manners maybe she would reply… If you look at the blog it’s very clear this is an IRS issue not TT, not H&R Blocks, Jackson Hewitts or any other tax preparers “fault” too many are frustrated as am I (accepted on 2/4/12 not with TT I might add) everyone is attacking this poor woman when she should just say it like it is. Taxes stink but it’s life, however we shouldn’t DEPEND on these monies. I understand it’s hard I have 3 small children live on a tight budget and don’t recieve child support as ordered… So my point is be nice to “Lisa” as she is just doing her job unfortunately having to repeat herself over and over because ppl are asking the same questions over and over…

    • i just called irs everything is outta wack and the rep. jus told me that no matter what i see on any site to just expect it 4 weeks from the date it was accepted,i cant get mad at her…but i know one thing if not recieved by the 28th..oooohweeee!

  8. TurboTaxLisa,
I used turbo tax to file my taxes I received my refund back only 2 days after the date that was displayed by the chart on where my refund’s website, but that’s not why I’m sending this message, I just figure I had to mention that due to the subject at hand. The real reason I am posting a comment here is that after reading through the majority of the comments people posted and your replies back, I find myself to be shocked and amazed that you and only you would even take the time to provide this kind of service and to answer all these questions and to do so with such professionalism it leaves me in utter amazement, really it does. So if no one has said this to you yet than I’m thrilled to be the first but if someone has and i’m sure someone has but no matter still just wanna say thank you and i only speak for myself that even tho I was fortunate enough to not have any issues with my tax refund still I appreciate what you are doing here and if I had an award to present to you I really would cause doing something like this deserves one at least in my opinion it does so again Miss. TurbotaxLisa you work here is very much appreciated and thank you………and is that really a picture of you…..just wondering

    • Hi Lua,
I am glad you didn’t have any issues with your tax refund. It is unfortunate that some taxpayers industry wide had to deal with IRS delays. Thank you for your comment. It is appreciated.
      Best,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  9. me too! jessica wmr says my funds should be der by feb 21st ,its now the 23rd and wmr still says shall be deposited 21st tt lisa answer me please!!! or should i still jus be patient

  10. now the i r s is telling by march 6 what goes on here over a month this ist’n right, now if theres a problem they should have told long time ago but theres ist’n so why the big wait i am handicap and need this money, your not answering any questions what so ever

  11. @TurboTax Lisa. I have asked you two questions in this blog yet you have failed to reply to either one of them. So, the WMR tool @irs.gov tells me that my tax refund is scheduled to direct deposit on FEB 23. Correct me if I’m wrong Lisa, and I’m sure you will by directing me toward a link, answering my question with a question, or not even answering my question at all. That seems to be your method for TT bloggers with questions regarding their respective refund. However, the way I understand it, my refund will direct deposit to the TT bank in Minnesota (University National Bank). Then within 24 hours the funds will be available on my TT Visa debit card. So if the irs.gov WMR tool is telling me and I quote, “Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on February 23, 2012” then I should have my funds no later than close of business Friday, February 24, 2012. Please shed some light, Lisa. Please make me feel better by actually answering my question this time.

  12. Yea so the “Where’s My Refund” site is a complete joke. I just checked my status and it says Feb. 21st… which was yesterday. So it’s definitely not true that they update it every day. I just find it funny that if I was late paying my taxes because I was “in a glitch” with my bills that the IRS would be all over it and charging me late feels, but it’s all fine and dandy for them to be “in a glitch” with our refunds. It’s just awesome.

  13. I have the same issue. I have a DD date from WMR of 2/22 and my refund wasn’t there this am and still isn’t. If it was delayed wouldn’t my DD date on the IRS site change?

    • Hi Jessica,
Sorry you are experiencing IRS delays. I would keep checking the IRS WMR tool. Some people that had a similar date are saying their date was just changed by the IRS.
Hopefully you will receive your tax refund soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • my date was feb 21st and my date still hasnt changed yet .the irs just told me to expect it 4weeks from the date recieved so hey it is what it is!!!

  14. I went on where’s my refund it said I would have my tax return on the 21st. It’s now the 22nd and I have nothing. I’ve called h and r block and there not telling me anything I already don’t know. Where is my money!!!!

  15. I filed my taxes on the 5th my return date was 2-21-12 TODAY. This is my first year e-filing my taxes and im scared i didnt put my bank info in correctly. How come my taxes aren’t here

    • Hi Amanda,
Sorry about the IRS delays, but if you received IRS acceptance you should receive your tax refund soon. Some people are saying the IRS changed their date so check the IRS WMR tool again.
I hope you receive your tax refund soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  16. iI filed my return on 2/2/12 and still have no info on when iI will recieve it. its been 21 days . should iI be w worried and how will iI know if im audited ……. it seems like its taking forever !!!!

    • Hi Kristen,
Sorry for the IRS delay. I would not worry about being audited. The IRS is just experiencing delays per their update. Please keep checking the IRS WMR tool. I am seeing people saying they finally received a date on the IRS WMR tool.

I hope you receive your tax refund soon.

      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  17. The oldest trick in the book. ” Im sorry you feel this way” old salesman/customer service trick. Instead of dancing around the questions answer them. You know you could actually save some of your customers if you just owned up to your mistakes. I filed on Feb 6 and was accepted the same day. My son did his with a diff company on same day as I did and received his return last week. My buddy did his by MAIL 2 days before I did and got it back today. lol You bet ur butt that when i check sbbt no deposit but you know TT already has their bill stated on there. Been dealing with them for years. It’s a shame that they can not man up and take some fault. And sorry, this is not “how I feel” These ARE the facts my friends.

    • Hi Richard,
For one it is not a salesman/customer service trick. I am actually the blog manager and I am not in customer service. I am just answering everyone’s questions that come in on the blog. Did you read the IRS update from the IRS that states it is not your software company or tax preparer’s fault? It also explains why some people receive their tax refunds sooner than others. I have looked at other company’s sites and they are experiencing the same issues.

Now, if your issue is with the refund card, additional security measures were put in place to assure the customers who deserve tax refunds get them. Please read the update here:
Due to a significant rise in fraud across the industry, Intuit has put in place more stringent fraud detection and prevention controls to help ensure that only legitimate cardholders receive the refunds they are entitled to on a TurboTax Refund Card. In a small number of cases, we regret that a hold on some cards may impact legitimate cardholders. You can go here for additional information (see Security & Fraud Prevention): https://turbotaxcard.intuit.com/support/faq_turbotaxcard.html. Please note that the support line included in this article may require some wait time.

Sorry for the delay and I hope you receive your tax refund soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • Thank you for spending some time to detbae this situation, I believe truly regarding it coupled with cherish mastering more about this excellent matter. In the event conceivable, while develop competency, is it possible you responses adding to any journal with much more help and advice? This is very helpful for us.

  18. I got the comment that my tax return was received and is being processed. If you file a complete and accurate return your refund will be issued within 6 weeks. Yikes, does that mean there is something wrong with the return? After paying $400 to H&R, even though this seems to be an IRS problem it is still disconcerting. Maybe next time I will use TT and save all that money I was just worried cause husband is and OTR truck driver and I wasn’t sure how to file myself or if software like TT helps when things get more complicated. I know you are doing your best to answer all these ??? Sorry for the long post! But thanks for the help

    • Hi Terri,
Thank you. Yes you are correct it is an industry wide problem due to IRS delays, but hopefully everyone will receive their refunds soon.

Yes next time you can prepare your taxes with TT even though your husband is a Truck Driver. Our tax program will guide you through the entries.

      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  19. It’s February 21 and still no refund. We filed on the 3rd and it was accepted by the IRS on the same day. We all tend to panic because the IRS can be somewhat unforgiving on mistakes we may make on our returns. I think that’s why I’m in a state of panic myself. I haven’t seen a thing on where my DD is. WMR tells me that i may have entered my information incorrectly and to reenter it again. I did not enter incorrect info and when i go to the next screen it tells me that that have no information on my return at this time. It’s very frustrating. GRRRR…I haven’t even received an estimated refund date yet….I am in limbo…

    • Hi Lori,
I know this is frustrating for everyone. If your tax return was accepted the IRS says you will most likely receive you refund. I wouldn’t worry. Hopefully you will receive your refund soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • Finally today, WMR says IRS is processing the return and DD could be expected by March 6th…So much for efiling….:(

      • Hi Lori,
Sorry about the IRS delay, but I am glad you have a date. Hopefully you will receive your refund soon.
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

  20. Its February 21 and still no sign of my DD. We filed on the 3rd and was accepted by the Irs the same day. We tend to get in a state of panic because the Irs can be so unforgiving when it comes to mistakes on your return,so people go crazy thinking the worst possible scenario. WMR tells me that i may have entered my Information incorrectly and to reenters it…but my info is.correct…the next.screen tells me they have no info on my return at this time…..grrrrr …very frustrated like the rest of you….

  21. ok at first I thought this was IRS but know is it more of a delay because I used turbo tax. My friend went to a tax place same day I filed and she has her tax refund and I dont makes me really wonder now if I want to use turbo tax

  22. e-filed our fed and state taxes. Both were accepted. We were supposed to have our state refund directed on 2-21-2012 for 1897. The amount that was direct deposited was only 895. What would be the reason?

    • Hi Melissa,
It could be an adjustment due to an error or if you owed any back taxes they will offset your tax refund. You should receive a notice regarding the adjustment from your department of revenue or I would call them to find out about the difference.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  23. My taxes did not come in when they were supposed to. And you cannot get a human at the irs office to talk to. Automated only and then they hang up on you. Very frustrating to those of us who are relying on our returns.

    • Hey I had the Same problem however I figured out how to get a person it took me 18 minutes on hold.
800.829.1040 press 1 for english then ext 362

it will say transfering expected wait time greater than 15 minutes.

      I hope this helps.

      Chris

      • Yes, I had to go through the process of punching buttons implying that I owed them money and then they answered. They said up to 5 weeks!!

  24. Wow because TurboTax cannot blame the IRS or redirect my comment to a link that blames the IRS for delays, I don’t get a response?

    • Hi Kate,
What do you need to know? The blog you came in on gives an update on the IRS delays and an FAQ from the IRS as well as an FAQ.
Please see the link included in the blog.
      Thank you,

      • i done my taxes on the 25 of jan it was accepted on the 31, i called the irs and they said it was still processing its been 21 day wheres my refund.

      • even though its a delay with the system with irs and tax companies but for some people who has a wmr stat saying funds shall be deposited by feb 21st will some get it? and be honest have funds ever been deposited on a tuesday?

      • thanks tim , but i just recently checked again and wmr states that i shall recieve my refund by feb 21st which is today…is there any chance that it can still be deposited throughout the day? but what i do know is that people who didnt get it on wmr scheduled date got it the following week.

      • i just checked WMR again and it says that my refund was DD in my account on 2/22 (yesterday) and I checked w/ my bank, and Surprise, no money from the IRS. What is going on? Is there a way to track exactly where my refund is now?

      • me too! jessica wmr says my funds should be der by feb 21st ,its now the 23rd and wmr still says shall be deposited 21st tt lisa answer me please!!!

      • Where is my refund has said my refund would be deposited on 02-21-12 for over a week now and still says it but no money in my bank accoount yet. I called IRS and was told they are running about a week late so expect it on the 28th of Feb. guess they can not update the WMR site.

      • Did you receive your refund yet? The WMR told me my refund was DD on 2/23 and its still not in my bank account.

      • @TurboTax Lisa. • I files with tt on jan 20th and was accepted on the 23rd. I recieved my federal first week in Feb. I am still waiting for my illinois state refund. they are telling me 10 to 15 weeks. Is this possible? are all these bloggers talking about only federal? because I had no promlem getting paid from them.

      • Hi Jennifer,
I’m glad you were paid by the IRS. Most of the people are talking about their federal refunds. If you were accepted by the state and they gave you a time frame you should receive your refund from the state. You can try contacting the Illinois Department of Revenue http://www.revenue.state.il.us/#t=tab2
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • my dd suppose to be feb 29th but i checked sbtpg and it says the irs released my funds ….yay!!! but the small problem is when will i be able to touch it ,spend it? how long does it take to clear and be posted to my tt card….rediculous!!! answer me this time tt lisa…do i have to wait two days forreal?

      • Well, i can tell you that i think you may have some troubles cnmiog your way. See, the form 5405(first time home buyer form) asks specific questions about the actual purchase price, and date of closing.i, on the other hand, went to an accountant this year for the first time in 7 years to have mine done. Since i bought my house, and closed on it 2 days after the start date of this program(closed april 11th 2008). I just wanted to make sure everything was done right.Well, here it is over 2 weeks later, and my federal still hasnt been accepted by the IRS. Kind of makes me think that they are delaying all of the first time home buyer applications.

  25. I like how the irs is able to delay our basically “prepaid” taxes but when it comes to getting their money they don’t want to hear excuses…

    • absolutely right! heaven forbid you owe them $40 more then you’re able to pay on time and they take your first born! but never mind if you’re barely keeping the roof over your head and you’ve promised your dated refund to bill collectors, the irs can suddenly change that date with no warning, explanation, or apology! i would love to get a nationwide standard format press release-style letter that anyone at anytime can send to a bill collector when our financial institutions screw us over, that we can send to whomever we owe money and not endure any consequences.

  26. I filled on Feb. 5th and got accepted on the 6th. I have still not received my refund and and its the 18th. I also tried the IRS site and still has no info. I also never got a email from turbo tax about it being accepted but e-file says it has. Can you please help me on what I should do?

    • Hi John,
Sorry for the delay due to IRS processing delays. Per the IRS update, the IRS may take longer to review your tax return and process your refund this tax season. Unfortunately all you can do is wait. The IRS is saying most returns will be processed in 10 to 21 days, but some may take longer.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • Ive left you several comments LISA and I am getting irrtated weather you are just a person or a computer! I dont know my exact refund amount and I want to see my bank information i put in to get to deposited. Please help me, youve responded to other people but me. I filed 3 weeks ago and I just want my money!

      • Hi Chelsey,
I apologize. I am a person, but only one person who manages the blog. I am answering many support questions although I am not support.
If I understand correctly you are trying to determine your bank information you put on your tax return, right?
You can look on the copy of your tax return to see what account you put on your tax return. If that is the case, you are probably wondering why you have not received your refund yet and wondering if you put the wrong account, is that correct? You may not have. As the IRS update states, they are experiencing delays. The best thing to do is check the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool. I know it has been up and down, but today people are saying they do have a date of deposit now.
        Sorry for the IRS delay.
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • Thank you for finally responding. I have checked the wheres my refund button many times and it does not work for some reason. Everytime I put my refund amount in it says its wrong when obviously, i know it rights. I do not know the next step to take or who to talk to because it keeps telling me its wrong.

    • i filed on the 8th of feb and was accepted the same day when i checked wmr it say that its processing and that i shall recieve by the 28th of feb and when i called they said the same thing to expect it by feb 28th or before that date…if you were accepted youre good even if irs tt doesnt have no status…if you gotten a response that you were accepted dont worry!!

  27. I e-filed on February 4th and just received notification from the IRS on ‘Where’s My Refund’ that I should be getting the refund on March 6th. Before today, I kept getting the no information found error. If this is typical, people are looking at a month before they’ll get their refund. I wonder how long those people who mailed their returns are going to have to wait?!

    • Hi Mark,
Sorry for the delay due to IRS processing delays. Hopefully you will receive your refund soon. As you have read the IRS is taking extra precautions due to so much fraud occurring, so they have put more measures in place to ensure that the appropriate taxpayers are receiving a refund no matter how their taxes are filed.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • I e-filed on the 4th of Feb. and finally (yesterday) received a deposit date of Mar. 6th. That”s more than a month. My mother mailed hers on the 10th and she got her check the 22nd – so much for the e-filing early idea. Next year…I mail.

    • I filed my sons taxes on H&R Block February 1 and he got his paper check in the mail on February 21st. I filed my taxes on Feb 3rd with H&R block and did direct deposit and WMR now finally estimates my refund date as March 6th. I find it ironic that my son got a paper check that is suppose to take longer than direct deposit 2 weeks before my estimated direct deposit date. I have to wonder if it would have been faster to file paper and get a mailed check. I do think the problem is on the end of the IRS and not the tax software providers so we need to direct our irritation and frustration in the right direction. Have a nice day and good luck to all.

  28. since no one answered my question, i’ll try again:
my federal return was accepted, according to turbotax on feb 2,2012. today is feb 16 and no refund. when i go to IRS site ‘where’s my refund’ and enter the info, i am told they have no info about my return or refund. i called the IRS up and they told me to wait another week. i feel like i am in the twilight zone. how accurate is turbotax in telling me the feds accepted my return?

    • Hi Tom,
TurboTax just transmits the information from the IRS about whether your tax return is accepted or rejected. If there was a specific error, the IRS would send TurboTax the reject error code and notice. Per the IRS update, they are, however checking tax returns more closely prior to issuing tax refunds.
I hope you receive your tax refund soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • As to this question Tom, also IRS issue the Where is my refund site giving ALOT of us same issues just keep checking back I just got a date this past friday was getting same message till then you are getting

    • Hi Rashad,
Per the IRS update on this blog post, due to the recent amount of fraud industry wide, IRS is checking tax returns more closely. Some more than others.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • Yes very tru I had the same problem if there 1 week behind im hoping that i will get it by the end of this week since it was due on the 15th and i hope you and tons of people that are waiting on there checks get it ASAP :\

      • Brenda I too was told that my refund would be avail in my account for the 15th. We called the Irs today and she told us we would have our refund 3 weeks to the acceptance date which will be the 25th. Fingers crossed!!! Hope everyone gets what’s owed to them asap! It’s total crap and if anyone of us owed the Irs money trust and believe we would have loads of interest added to it!

      • Brrenda & Brittani,

i’m experiencing the same issue. i too filed through H&R Block on the 4th of FEB and was told the same thing. even when i go on to the IRS website it can give me a definitive date of when my return will be coming in. i think both websites are experiencing the same problem and its just issues with the IRS…

  29. I filed my taxes on Feb 15th through HR Block my date that i was supposed to receive my check was yesturday feb 15th i had no clue of what was going on i spoke to 3 people and all 3 had 3 different storys one said should be by friday the next one said maybe by sunday and the last one said i could not count weekends so what was the purpose of me paying 394.00 for rapid refund?

  30. i have a problem with this it says 7 to14 Days well i filed on the 3rd of feb n i wnt gt anything bak possibly by the 28th really wtf is really goin on… i will take my chances elsewhere lik H&R Block nxt year i will NOT come back to TT

    • Hi Brittani,
I am sorry you feel this way. Please read this post and the IRS FAQs which specifically state that this is not an issue with your software company. This an issue with IRS delays. The entire industry including Block is experiencing these delays. If you check their site you will see the comments as well.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

    • Hi Brittani I know what you mean but I filed mines through HR Block and i got the same answer i filed my taxes on Feb 2nd and was supposed to get my check yesrturday feb 15th and because the IRS is so backed up supposely a week behind i dont know when ill get mines 🙁

  31. Ok i got a priblem with this had i known that i would b recieving my refund in march i would have never filed with TT i knew it was a mistake doin so ugh i will never use this sservice again instead ill just go to a real establishment lik H&R Block!!! Thanks but no thanks!!!

    • Hi Brittani,
They have the same issue as well. No one in the industry knew that anyone would experience these types of delays. Please see the IRS update just dated 2/10/12. If we knew we would have posted those dates. In addition, we as well as other tax software companies and preparers use the estimated dates from the IRS which are projected dates based on normal filing.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  32. Is anyone that used efile via turbotax getting their refund in 10 days? irs.gov where’s my refund link states I should receive mine by Feb 28. Could I possible receive my refund sooner than this date? My federal return was accepted on Feb 9. Please do not give me an answer with a link or tell me to read the update.. I’ve read both pages.

  33. my federal return was accepted, according to turbotax on feb 2,2012. today is feb 16 and no refund. when i go to IRS site ‘where’s my refund’ and enter the info, i am told they have no info about my return or refund. i called the IRS up and they told me to wait another week. i feel like i am in the twilight zone. is this turbotax’s
    fault?

    • No all IRS on this one Tom, I am in the same boat but so were others who did not use turbo tax IRS is messing us ALL up this year making us wait.

  34. Hey lisa, I filed my taxes Jan 24 n my tax refund has been accepted. But still no refund has been deposited in my account n its already past 21 days of the cycle that the IRS said to give them 10-21days. What am I suppose to do now? I can’t call customer service because the IRS says don’t call them unless u were told to.

    • Hi Ann,
The IRS says that most tax refunds will be processed in 10-21 days, but tax refunds are delayed due to additional review that may be necessary by IRS agents.

At this point, all you can do is keep checking the “Where’s My Refund Tool?”. Hopefully your refund will come soon.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  35. This is a turbo tax problem i have several friends who filed the same exact time i did and got there money yesturday. I have that stupid card and and nothing everyday and plus i have read on the irs website and others that if you filed between feb 2 through the 8 you wont be affected by the delay. So i think you need to be honest with people and admit especially if they have a tt card that there is a problem on your end. And i will never again file with you guys. And thats sad i have filed with you for 5 years. Everyone taxact people got there refunds already and people who didnt use turbo tax or h&rblock got theres back already.

    • Hi Carissa,
I’m sorry you feel this way. If you look on Block’s sites and any others you will see that the refund delay is an industry wide issue.

Regarding the TurboTax refund card there is also an issue related to the recent fraud in the industry:
Due to a significant rise in fraud across the industry, Intuit has put in place more stringent fraud detection and prevention controls to help ensure that only legitimate cardholders receive the refunds they are entitled to on a TurboTax Refund Card. In a small number of cases, we regret that a hold on some cards may impact legitimate cardholders. You can go here for additional information (see Security & Fraud Prevention): https://turbotaxcard.intuit.com/support/faq_turbotaxcard.html. Please note that the support line included in this article may require some wait time.
      Thank you,

    • Carissa do not take it out on Turbo Tax it is a industry wide problem. I have friends who used H and R block and TaxAct EVERYONE has been delayed including me. I filed Feb 3rd it was accepted the 3rd still Nothing now everyone else who has been delayed is getting theres and i am hoping my post in the morning. Blame the IRS on this one that is who I am blaming all them this time

  36. Hi lisa, I understand there are delays but my question is does the irs only send your refund once weekly? I’m asking because it says if you filed between 2/2-2/8 your est deposit will be 2/15 and filed 2/9-2/15 will be 2/22. Mine was accepted 2/8 at 6:38pm and it says my refund will be by feb 28, but does it have to be on the 22cd or mar.1st or can I receive it in between those certain dates? And also when it is sent will it be on my tt card right away or does it take time for turbo tax to process it to my card. Thank you for your time, must be tough for you this time of year especially with the delays so I appreciate your help very much.

    • Hi Gary,
The IRS old system used to process once weekly, but now they are not processing the refunds the same. In light of the delays though, I would say you may receive it between those dates. In addition, tighter security measures have been placed on the refund card as well. Please see the information regarding the refund card:

Due to a significant rise in fraud across the industry, Intuit has put in place more stringent fraud detection and prevention controls to help ensure that only legitimate cardholders receive the refunds they are entitled to on a TurboTax Refund Card. • Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in wiinrtg like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.

  37. I was wondering where my money is i was suppose to get it today . Anybody that has filed on any other website has had no delays and neither has anybody from jackson hewitt or h&r block, why with you guys you keep saying read this read that but you are giving no legit answer most people look foward to there money , like me i have three kids to take care of and work i really need my refund .. so where is it for real when the irs needs there money and somebody tells them it is a delay they don’t care they want they money i will never ever use you guys again

    • Hi Gina,
I’m sorry you feel that way and sorry about the IRS delay. If you looked at the link from the IRS they told you this is an industry wide problem. I looked at a post from one of the companies you mentioned that has over 200 comments regarding the refund delays. They are all experiencing the same issues.

      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  38. Lisa, I filed on 1/31 and they were accepted later that day. I waited and went on to the WMR site and was initially given the date of 2/8, well when 2/8 came and went I started researching my refund and found nothing. I waited a few days and went to the WMR site again and now it says that I should receive my refund within six weeks. The one question I have is I asked for direct deposit on my TT card will I still get it dd there or will I now receive a paper check? My fiance had delays in her taxes this year also so I know that there are issues with the IRS but I dont understand how they could give me a date then post a generic message of within six weeks?? Any answers would be appreciated.

    • Hi Jasen,
Thank you for your patience. The IRS update outlines the reasons for the IRS date changes in this blog post update. In addition, due to a rise in fraud industry wide, more stringent fraud detection and prevention controls were put in place on the refund card to help ensure that only legitimate cardholders receive the refunds they are entitled to on a TurboTax Refund Card. 39. I know that this is a irs issue on the Wheres my refund but I would think because I used Turbo tax that they would have sent an e mail to inform us that there is a problem instead of me having to figure it out

    • Hi Margie,
We were waiting for an update from the IRS. As soon as we received an update from the IRS on Friday evening we posted the update from the IRS on our support site, facebook page, and blog.
      Sorry for the delay.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • is this turbo mistake or irs we need our money now irs sure takes it from us fast so now my refund i hope will be just as fast

      • Hi Rose,
I hope so too! Per the IRS update it is an industry wide IRS delay.
        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

  40. Thank you for the email, TurboTaxLisa, this information is most helpful. I filed on 02/02/12 with an estimated refund date of 02/15/12 (today). I was not surprised when the deposit did not post. Luckily, I am not in desperate need of the money. Although, I know people that have heard nothing back in January and many are being told they should be refunded later this month. So, based on that, I probably will not see my refund until sometime in March.

    • You might try Where’s My Refund. Even if the refund cycle chart says that the direct deposit should be sent, that doesn’t mean you will receive today in your bank. Most often, the banks post these on Friday. Check out Where’s My Refund on the IRS website. If you input your information and it states something to the effect of “your tax return is scheduled to be direct deposit on…..” or “direct deposit has been sent on…..” you can more or less rest assured that your return has been processed and your direct deposit has been sent and you should receive by Friday. Of course, I imagine things can go wrong, but this is generally the way it works.

    • and you are probably right because I filed on Feb.4th, and for the first week or so could not get any information from “Where’s My Refund”. Then it finally told me Feb.28th and I breathed a sigh of relief to actually have an estimated date finally. But as of yesterday my expected refund date has changed to Mar.6th due to ” un expected refund processing delays.” I just hope it does not change to any later than that. I went thru this last year, but just hoping and praying it won’t be as bad. My expected refund date changed 3times last year, by months. I filed my taxes in January and did not receive them until end of April. Up until last year I never had a problem, always recieved my refund within 2wks at most3. I was not audited nor did I have any errors on my tax return, they just kept saying they were having problems with new software in their system. Sounds like the same bull crap to me this year. I really liked the fact that Turbo Tax cost me about 400 dollars less than H&R block, and even though I know this is beyond T.T.’s control, I am tempted to just start paper filing. Why pay any fees besides the cost of a postage stamp or 2 to e-file when you aren’t going to get it back any faster. So Turbo Tax, I am sure you are not the only company, but every year this happens the government is causing you to lose a loooot of business.

      • Hi Tammy,
Last year and this year there were different issues that occurred that impacted every tax preparer and software provider. Last year there were processing delays due to late legislation. Congress had to sign new legislation into law and then the IRS had to change forms to accommodate changes. Taxpayers who had certain deductions could not file until 2/14. This year the IRS made system changes, which has caused delays. It is taking longer to process tax returns due to IRS implementation of additional verification processes no matter what method is used to process tax returns. We also do not charge extra for e-file.
We are sorry you are experiencing IRS processing delays and I hope you receive your refund soon.

        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

  41. So TurboTax Lisa, all those filers that filed on January 17 thru the 19th should assume that their returns are being delayed due to IRS issues? Or are they being delayed for other reasons? What is the time frame someone should be concerned that they may be being audited?

  42. my return was accepted on the 31 of jan when should i expect my return to be deposited. i called the irs and they told me my refund was being prossed but couldnt give me a date when to expect it..
